Author of such books as La España que pudo ser: Memorias de una institucionista republicana (The Spain That Might Have Been: Memoirs of s Republican Student at the Institución Libre de Enseñanza) and the recently publsihed Caminos de españa y AMérica, Carmen de Zuelueta (Madrid, 1916) was in Rome -where her father, Luis de Zulueta, was Spain''s ambassador to the Vatican- when the Spanish Civil War broke out. Caught unaware, she began a period of exile that took her to ENgland, Frnace and Colombia, where she earned a degrre in liberal arts. She was later awarded a scholarship to study in the United States, and has made her home here sinde them. She has taugh Spanish languages and literature at Harvard University, the City University of New York (CUNY) and other colleges.
