Online Spanish Courses (AVE)

Online Spanish Courses (AVE)

What is the AVE?

The Instituto Cervantes’ Spanish Virtual Classroom is an Internet-based educational infrastructure set up to provide Spanish courses.

With AVE courses, students:

  • Learn to express themselves properly in Spanish in a variety of situations.
  • Study all aspects of the Spanish language: grammar, vocabulary, phonetics, spelling...
  • Discover the broad, sociocultural reality of the Spanish-speaking world in all its richness and diversity.

Levels and Courses

AVE is organized into the same levels as the language courses:

  • Beginner (A1, A2)
  • Intermediate (B1)
  • Advanced (B2)
  • Proficiency (C1)

Each course takes approximately 30 hours of work to complete.

Tests

Each lesson has three automatic tests that assess performance on the material already covered, as well as four exercises corrected by tutors.

Group Exercises

Each lesson includes at least three online exercises to be completed with fellow classmates, as well as a final task for each unit in which students put the course content into practice.

Cultural Content

One of the main aims of the AVE courses is to educate students about the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. By incorporating materials from different sociocultural sources, such as the press, literature, cinema, music and others, the courses provide a realistic reflection of Hispanic culture and society in all their rich variety.

Learning in the AVE

The Spanish Virtual Classroom uses Internet resources for educational ends, to put fast, innovative and easily accessible courses at students´ fingertips. Students are also free to choose the time, pace and place of study.

  • The availability of text, sound and images in multimedia products provides students with examples of language in real contexts. Students can also practice course content on their own, in attractively presented, interactive exercises.
  • The following resources are available to students:
    • Interactive, multimedia course materials: video, audio, games...
    • Communication tools: E-mail for sending text, sounds and images, chat, forums, audio conferencing...
    • An automatic assessment system that collects data on completed exercises which students have access to whenever required
    • Technical support when needed.

Certificates

Students who successfully finish any of the AVE courses will receive a certificate stating they have done so.

Those interested in obtaining an official qualification in Spanish can apply for the examination for the Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE). These examinations take place every year in more than a hundred cities worldwide.
