Who can use the library?

Anybody who would like to; the library offers free access to its facilities. However, if you would like to borrow items from the library you will need to become a member.

What are the opening hours?

Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 11:30 to 7:30
Thursdays and Fridays: 12:00 to 7:00
Saturdays: 10:00 to 1:30

How can I become a member of Instituto Cervantes?

By paying the annual membership fee:

  • Individual: ................. $50
  • Student / Senior: ....... $35
  • Family: ....................... $90
  • Friend: ........................ $250
  • Contributor: ............... $500
  • Supporter: .................. $1.000
  • Patron: ....................... $2,500
  • Benefactor: ................ $5,000

How many items can I borrow and for how long?

Most of the material in the collection is available for loan to members. Regular members can borrow up to 8 items (3 videos/DVDs maximum).

  • Books and CDs: 14 days
  • Videocassettes/DVDs: 7 days

Educators with valid identification can borrow up to 12 items (3 videos/DVDs maximum) for a period of 15 days.

Is it possible to renew items?

Books and CDs from the general collection can be renewed twice for the same amount of time as long as they have not been reserved by another user and they are not overdue. Movies (Videos and DVDs) can not be renewed under any circumstance. Items can be renewed in the library, online or by calling: 212.308.7720

Are there any books in the library in other languages apart form Spanish, for example English?

The library is gradually including books in Catalan, Galician and Basque. Regarding English, there are a selection of works and translations into English which are related to Spain and Latin America.

What should I do if I cannot find the information I am looking for in the library?

The library offers an information service to deal with any queries related to its area of expertise. In addition to this, our staff will also help you to obtain copies or the originals of materials which belong to other libraries or documentation centers .

Does the library organize guided tours for groups?
