Hailing from Tres Cantos in Madrid, Spain, alternative rock outfit Vetusta Morla formed in the summer of 1998. The band achieved success quickly, recording its first award-winning demo in early 2000 and completing its first EP, Mira ("Look") in 2005. In February 2008, Vetusta Morla released its first full-length LP, Un día en el mundo ("A Day in the World"), which met with considerable critical acclaim. In 2011, the band released its latest album Mapas ("Maps"), containing what AllMusic.com calls "an intriguing collection of intense, heavily layered tracks." Vetusta Morla has never been one to adhere to convention, and this disc represents an intriguing next step in the evolution of this chart-topping band.

Spanish pop/rock band La Oreja de Van Gogh is one of the most commercially successful performances of its genre, having sold over 8 million copies worldwide since their first album appeared in 1998. Driven by electric guitar and keyboard, the music is easily enjoyable and accessible while, at the same time, smartly crafted and distinct, with lyrics that deal generally with the complexities of relationships.
